History

1884 The Agricultural Society is founded. (as a research organization started by graduates of Komaba Agricultural School and Sapporo Agricultural School who initially served as the secretary- general and council members)
Publication of the Agricultural Society Bulletin (containing academic papers) (Continued until 1931)
1925 “The Prize of Agricultural Science” is established, with a prize medal.
1926 A joint conference between the Agricultural Society and the Japan Society for Bioscience, Biotechnology, and Agrochemistry is held.
1927 A joint conference among the Agricultural Society, the Japan Society for Bioscience, Biotechnology, and Agrochemistry, the Japanese Forest Society, the Sapporo Agriculture and Forestry Society, and the Agricultural Economics Society of Japan is held.
1928 Agricultural Society Alliance Meeting is held.
The members consist of the Agricultural Society, the Japan Society for Bioscience, Biotechnology, and Agrochemistry, the Fisheries Society,the Japanese Society of Animal Science, the Agricultural Economics Society of Japan, the Crop Science Society of Japan, the Japanese Society of Soil Science and Plant Nutrition and the Japanese Society for Horticultural Science.
1929 Founding meeting of the Association of Japanese Agricultural Scientific Societies is held.
The members consist of the Agricultural Society, the Sapporo Agriculture and Forestry Society, the Japanese Society for Horticultural Science, the Japanese Institute of Landscape Architecture, the Crop Science Society of Japan, the Japanese Society of Soil Science and Plant Nutrition, the Japan Society for Bioscience, Biotechnology, and Agrochemistry, the Phytopathological Society of Japan,
the Japanese Society of Sericultural Science, the Japan Society of Agricultural Engineering, the Agricultural Economics Society of Japan, the Japan Society of Applied Animal Science, the Japanese Society of Animal Science, the Japanese Society of Veterinary Science, the Japanese Forest Society, and the Fisheries Society (University of Tokyo).
1930 The Association of Japanese Agricultural Scientific Societies starts its operation.
The 1st Annual Meeting of the Association of Japanese Agricultural Scientific Societies and conferences by 13 academic societies is held.
The members consist of the Fisheries Society (Univ. of Tokyo), the Japanese Society of Sericultural Science, the Japanese Forest Society, the Agricultural Economics Society of Japan, the Japan Society of Applied Animal Science, the Japanese Society of Animal Science, the Japanese Society of Veterinary Science, the Japan Society of Agricultural Engineering, the Phytopathological Society of Japan, the Japan Society for Bioscience, Biotechnology, and Agrochemistry, the Japanese Society of Soil Science and Plant Nutrition, the Japanese Society of Animal Science, the Crop Science Society of Japan, and the Japanese Society for Horticultural Science.
Extraordinary meeting of the Association of Japanese Agricultural Scientific Societies is held.

1932 The Foundation of Agricultural Sciences of Japan is established.
1942 The Prize of Agricultural Science is renamed as the “Japan Prize of Agricultural Science”.
1949 The Science Council of Japan is established.
The Agricultural Progress Report is published in the First Science Council of Japan Part 6.

1950 The Natural Science Union is established.

It consists of the presidents from the Association of Japanese Agricultural Scientific Societies, the Japanese Association of Medical Sciences, the Japan Federation of Engineering Societies, and the Japan Society of Science.
1952 Regulations of the Association of Japanese Agricultural Scientific Societies are revised and enforced.
Second Science Council of Japan Part 6 “Agriculture Research Liaison Committee” is launched.
(10 members from the Association of Japanese Agricultural Scientific Societies; until around 1963)
Publication of "Japan Science Review, Biological Sciences" (commissioned by the Ministry of Education, running until 1966). Consisted of the Botanical Society of Japan, the Zoological Society of Japan, the Genetics Society of Japan, and the Association of Japanese Agricultural Scientific Societies.
Prizes (special incentives) using temporary collection of donations are abolished.
1954 The Suzuki Prize becomes an award given within the Japan Society for Bioscience, Biotechnology, and Agrochemistry.
1961 The date of the Annual Meeting of the Association of Japanese Agricultural Scientific Societies is fixed to April 5 every year.
As each society evolves and the number of research presentations increases, it becomes necessary for each society to select the conference schedule and venue.
(Prior to this, schedules and venues depended on the date of the Annual Meeting of the Association of Japanese Agricultural Scientific Societies)
The Ando Prize is abolished and the Japan Prize of Agricultural Science becomes the only award.
1964 Award of the Yomiuri Prize for Agricultural Science begins.
1967 The 1st World Symposium on Rice by the Association of Japanese Agricultural Scientific Societies is organized. (continued until 1972)
"Rice in Asia" is published by the University of Tokyo Press.
2005 The Symposium of the Association of Japanese Agricultural Scientific Societies is held independently of the Annual Meeting of the Association of Japanese Agricultural Scientific Societies.
